Cannabis Health and Beauty Aids (CHABA)
What are CHABA? What are hemp topicals...
CHABA stand for Cannabis Health & Beauty Aids. These are full plant cannabis topicals , that come from the marijuana side of the plant, that have no more than 0.3% THC, are non-intoxicating (non-euphoric, and will not get you high), and they are not for human/animal consumption. As of July 2015 House Bill 2136 in Washington State passed (RCW 69.50.575). There were many parts to this bill, but most importantly to the massage industry is part VII, which defines CHABA and exempts them from all regulations in the state’s Controlled Substance Act (CSA) pertaining to marijuana. This means CHABA are NOT considered a drug in WA state and to the WA Department of Health, the entity responsible for licensing massage therapists. Since CHABA are NOT considered a drug in Washington, it is the ONLY full plant cannabis (from the marijuana side) infused product that is legally allowed for use by WA licensed massage therapists. IF THE CANNABIS INFUSED PRODUCT IS STRONGER THAN A CHABA, IT IS ILLEGAL FOR ALL LICENSED MASSAGE THERAPISTS TO USE!!! To add on to this RCW 69.51A.280 further explains that the legality for LMT’s and other practitioners.
CHABA are amazing! The interaction of cannabis/hempseed oil with the different carrier oils they are added to, and the essential oils added to that, make these topicals almost like “super topicals” as they are super beneficial. PLEASE remember that different CHABA lines uses different ingredients in their products so I’d pay attention to that ingredient list!!
Lastly, I have 2 favorite lines of CHABA I prefer. Cannabis Basics comes in both CHABA and hempseed oil based. Kush Creams has 5 different levels, including CHABA and is EMU oil based. Hempseed oil based products are amazing because they are full of essential fatty acids (EFA). EFAs are essential and required for good health, but our bodies do not produce them. We source EFAs from our food and our skin care. They are important as they help prevent free radical damage in the body because it’s such a super antioxidant. Consistent topical application of essential fatty acids help improve elasticity, hydration, and helps prevent the skin breakdown in individuals with poor nutrition. My clients prefer massage with CHABA because they feel it makes the massage exponentially better. They notice their healing process is faster and it’s more therapeutic without that “high feeling”.
The Revised Code of WA (RCW 69.50.575) in regards to Cannabis Health & Beauty Aids (CHABA) can be found at: http://app.leg.wa.gov/RCW/default.aspx?cite=69.50.575
According to the National Cannabis Industry Association (NCIA), this is the first such legislation in the United States.
Side note: A BIG THANK YOU for EVERYTHING Cannabis Basics has done to define a new industry of CHABA. Without them and Kari Boiter (the other co-author of the CHABA law), I wouldn’t be able to help most of my clients the way I do. I am always open to other companies products, but hands down, CANNABIS BASICS is one of my favorite lines of CHABA to use.
